2 is subtracted from the balance;

Half amount is deducted from that;

2 is subtracted again from it;

Half of the amount is deducted;

2 is subtracted again from it;

Again,when the half amount is deducted,

The remainder is 2.  

Solve:----

There are 4 steps;We can calculate from end;

(4) After half amount is deducted,the remainder is 2.

So the previous number was 2+2=4;

This is, after 2 was subtracted;

So,the previous number is 4+2=6;

(3) As this is half of the amount,the full amount is 6x2=12

This is after 2 was subtracted;

So, the previous number is 12+2=14;

(2) As this is half of the amount,the full amount is 14x2=28

This is after 2 was subtracted;

So, the previous number is 28+2=30;

(1) As this is half of the amount,the full amount is 30x2=60

This is after 1 was subtracted;

So, the previous number is 60+1=61
